Marteen's got the Jazz Factor!

Jersey has a new queen of jazz!

Marteen McCloat has been crowned winner of the Island's first Jazz Factor competition. She beat fellow finalists Rem Floris, Adam Fowler and Wilm Mattioli at a packed final at Jersey's Opera House on Sunday night.

The decision was made by judges Rebecca Day, Mark Labey and Peter Mac. They marked the contestants on intonation, stage presence and timing. 270 people turned out to watch the event which also featured an appearance from Jerseyman Robbie Harvey on trombone - He came back to the Island especially to play.

Jazz Factor was run to raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care and Jersey Women's Refuge and was supported by the Well Swung Jazz Orchestra. The competition raised £6,000. The cash will be split between the two charities.

Jazz Factor - The Final: to be held at the Jersey Opera House on the Sunday 29th Nov.

The 4 finalists will perform 2 songs each in a bid to be crowned the Jazz Factor champion.

Marteen McCloat - Old Devil moon and Besame Muchos

Wilm Mattioli - Goergia on my mind and Everytime we say goodbye

Adam Fowler - Crazy little thing called love and Try a little tenderness

As well as the contestants there will be performances by Tony Gardiner, the Judges - Mark Labey and Rebecca Day (not Peter Mac hopefully) as well as The Well Swung Jazz Orchestra, featuring Robbie Harvey on trombone. - COMPLETED

Jazz Factor The Audition: is to be held at the Ha'penny bridge pub in a karaoke format - where the judges, Peter Mac, Mark Labey and Rebecca Day will select 8 singers to go through to the semi-final round - COMPLETED

Jazz Factor - The Initiation: Held on 18th October at the Arts Centre. The semi-finalists will be asked to perform a big band swing numbers using the Well Swung Jazz Orchestra as the backing. Rehearsal time and some coaching (if required) will be given to each competitor leading up to this stage with the orchestra.

There will be some instrumental numbers by Well Swung Jazz Orchestra and vocal performances by Rebecca, Mark and compare, Tony Gerdener.

The judges will then select 4 to go through to the Final - COMPLETED
